Navigating and understanding a vendor’s training and certification paths can be a little overwhelming. As that vendor grows, adds and acquires products and keeps up with technology trends, so does it’s training and certification offerings.
There was a time when a person would say, “I’m VMware certified” and that would imply a VCP (VMware Certified Professional) or VCAP (VMware Certified Advanced Professional) in Data Centre Virtualisation. This is no longer the case as VMware’s training and certification span multiple tracks. An individual can now choose from multiple tracks depending on their daily function or the domain in which they want to develop their skills.
There are currently six tracks, namely, Data Center Virtualization, Security, End-User Computing, Cloud Management and Automation, Network Virtualization and Application Modernization providing diversity of choice.
VMware also offer associate level certifications called VCTA (VMware Certified Technical Associate) for people with little prior knowledge or maybe just starting their career with VMware.
If you are considering deepening your knowledge on VMware by attending training and then pursuing the certifications, have a look at this document. It shows the various Certification Tracks and the required training courses that an individual would need to attend to become VMware certified.
